Q: Can I stop taking Lorazepam and replace it with Rozeram?
I have been taking 1 mg of Lorazepam at night to calm down and go to sleep. I suffer from health anxiety. My doctor suggested that I take Rozeram instead and try to get off Lorazepam. I'm not sure what effect this will have on my body and since I'll probably fall asleep with the Rozeram, I won't be able to tell. I think that by quitting Lorazepam suddenly, I might get some bad withdrawal symptoms. I've been taking this med for 4 years non-stop. When I tried .5 mg, I felt horrible. Would it be dangerous to quit cold turkey and replace it with Rozeram or should I not take Rozeram and keep taking Lorazepam? Serious answers only please. I also suffer from squeezing and chocking sensations during the day - usually around my throat and chest and sometimes my stomach. I've done cardio and digestive test and none were serious. Does anyone else suffer from these symptoms and, if so, how do you deal with them. Thanks!
A: If you want to switch to Rozeram for sleeping you need to taper off the lorazepam first....slowly. You should cut your dose in half for about 4 weeks then keep cutting it in half every month or 2, go off slowly. I think you might need a drug to control your anxiety during the day also since the lorazepam has been helping with this so talk to your dr. If you are stable and every thing is ok on your one bedtime dose of lorazepam I would not change what you are doing unless you have addicition concerns or other health concerns.
Q: Taking Lorazepam...?
what is the average dose? I take .05 mg but it doesn't seem to help me much.
A: 0.5 mg is a standard dose. if it isn't working for you I suggest you talk to your doctor about it. they may want to try a different medication. do not start taking additional pills before you talk to your doctor, it could do more harm than good. give the meds a hance and tell your doctor how you feel, there are other meds available.
Q: I have a public speaking phobia, how will I feel after taking Lorazepam during a public speaking presentation?
I was prescribed Lorazepam because I have a very serious phobia toward public speaking. Tomorrow will be the first day I actually try the medication before a presentation. How much time before the presentation do I have to take the pill? Is suppose to help me with high bp, anxiety, and nervousness? How am I supposed to feel during the presentation?
A: The medication is to help with anxiety and or nervousness. You should have tryed the medicine a few days before your speech, because if it is a new med for you, your body might react different then it should. Depending on the strenght or milligrams of the medicine, you might be very tired, or appear to have a hangover and feel sluggish. This medicine is a relaxant. I wish you would have tryed it a few days before to see how your body tolerates it. If your speech is in the morning then take before bed and allow yourself at least 8 hours of sleep , to help reduce making you have a drug hangover. good luck on your speech.
Q: why do i feel dizzy after taking lorazepam?
i take 2 mg pills of lorazepam as sleeping pills.
i feel sick at the beginning then fall asleep, after i wake up and try to walk, i feel dizzy and can't properly walk.
why does this happen?
the doctor didnt prescribe me lorazepam, nobody did.
my dad owns the bottle.
A: 2 mg is a pretty big dose and that's probably why you feel sick and are dizzy when you get up. I take .5 mg and it puts me to sleep!
The real problem that I see in your Q is that you are TAKING THIS STUFF WITHOUT A PRESCRIPTION. What's up with that? If you are having trouble sleeping, tell your doctor so that s/he can prescribe something if you need it. My bet is that you won't be given a Rx for 2mg of lorazepam.
Q: How long do I wait after taking Lorazepam before I start drinking alcohol?
My flight leaves out at 6am and my doc prescribed me this drug to help with anxiety. I'll be getting to Vegas around 9ish. Of course, we'll sleep til about noonish. Looking to start having cocktails around fiveish. Is this enough time? Should I wait longer?
Thanks!
Oh..it's 1mg.
A: Hi there! I used to take Lorazepam, now I am taking diazepam (same category). I don't drink, except on special occasions. I was taking Lorazepam when I had a drink, when we went to a wedding later one day. I had taken it in the orning. I remember, it made me tired. I only had one drink, to toast.
Now, the effects can last several hours, even if they do prescribe it for people like me who have severe anxiety. I did check with my pharmacy to make sure (just now), I told them I was taking that (Lorazepam, even though it is diazepam) and told them I would be going out for an anniversary and may have a drink. I asked them if I took it in the morning & that evening had a drink if it would be okay. They said it would just make me Extra tired and not to over do it (the drinking). If you have to drink, I would not do but one small drink and not fast. Actually, why don't you just wait until the next day and don't take any that next day. You never know how you will react to it (could make you sick, who knows). You can call your pharmacy, too. Anyway, I just wanted to help you out, so that is why I called my pharmacist. Oh, and if you take the lorazepam, you really don't need to drink, it will calm you down & you may not feel like drinking... have a cola. Don't drink, just because others are. It is up to you, though. You don't want to put your health at risk. Check with the pharmacy.
Q: Can I take Lorazepam 0.5mg during the day if it was prescribed for taking on bedtime?
on the directions it says to take it before bedtime but i get anxiety before going to a reunion at 8 pm and i want to know if 0.5 will make me really sleepy because i need to be awake.
A: it will make you sleepy. If you are going to take it then take it at least 8 hours before you have to be somewhere
Q: Is it safe to take Lorazepam (Ativan) 24 hours after taking xanax?
My doc recently perscribed me Lorazepam (Ativan). I was wondering if it safe to take 1mg of Lorazepam if 24 hours ago I took .25 mg of Xanax.
Note: I am also taking prozac for OCD
A: should be fine, but would not take then closer together than 6-8 hours as that will make you pretty sleepy.
Q: Is anyone in England taking Lorazepam 1mg tablets?
If you are, how are they prescribed to you? My mum is taking them but has been told she can only have them on a private prescription even though she is on incapacity benefit. Her doctor said the government will not allow these drugs to be prescribed on NHS however my nan does get them on NHS. Can anyone give me any insight on this matter?
A: i do. i get them on nhs. its a post code lottery. like school catchment areas only 100* more ridiculous
Q: What cold medicine can I take if I am currently taking Naprosyn and Lorazepam?
I am taking Naprosyn and Lorazepam for the headaches I have been getting. However since everyone here at work is sick and sneezing, it seems I caught the bug too. What OTC medication can I take that won't interfere with these 2 drugs?
A: The only OTC cold medication you should definitely avoid is Aleve Cold & Sinus, as it contains naproxen sodium - a salt of the naproxen you are getting from your Naprosyn. Also, you might want to check for the antihistamines chlorpheniramine and brompheniramine as they could make you very drowsy in combination with the lorazepam. Most night-time OTC cold medications have one of these antihistamines, and they are known to have a moderate interaction with lorazepam. When combined, it could result in CNS or respiratory depression, although this is a higher risk for elderly patients or people who have a serious illness. If you decide to take a product with one of these antihistamines, be sure you don't have to drive or "operate heavy machinery" as the labels say. You can check with your doctor or pharmacist to confirm this.
Q: What are the pros's and con's on taking lorazepam?
Has anyone tooken lorazepam for anxiety before? How did you find this drug?
A: I take lorazepam along with lithium for bipolar disorder. Anxiety is something of a trigger for both manic and depressive episodes in my case, and the lorazepam actually helps with this. Since it is fast acting, I can take it in moments of need and get benefit instead of having to take it for weeks just to start feeling a little different. As part of my treatment plan I can also take them regularly (once a day) as a preventative method if I so choose. The only real cons I have with taking them is I either get sleepy or hungry or both when they start wearing off. So a lot of nights I catch myself snacking and then passing out on the couch. My doctor told me about lorazepam when looking for suitable medications in the beginning when I told her that sometimes I would self medicate with Xanax to help the anxiety (they will not prescribe xanax where I go because they deem it to be more of a problem than a possible solution in most cases)
Q: Has anyone breast fed their baby while taking lorazepam??
I still nurse my two year old sometimes and I was given lorazepam. Has anyone taken this while breast feeding?
A: No...I'm leary of taking tylenol while nursing...
I would pass on them if I were you...
***PREGNANCY: Lorazepam and other benzodiazepines have been associated with fetal damage, including congenital malformations, when taken by pregnant women in their first trimester. Lorazepam is best avoided if at all possible in the first trimester and probably throughout pregnancy.
NURSING MOTHERS: It is not known if lorazepam is secreted in breast milk.
SIDE EFFECTS: The most common side effects associated with lorazepam are sedation (15.9% of patients), dizziness (6.9% of patients), weakness, and unsteadiness. Other side effects include a feeling of depression, loss of orientation, headache, and sleep disturbance.
Like all benzodiazepines, lorazepam can cause physical dependence. Suddenly stopping therapy after a few months of daily therapy may be associated with a feeling of loss of self–worth, agitation, and insomnia. If lorazepam is taken continuously for longer than a few months, stopping therapy suddenly may produce seizures, tremors, muscle cramping, vomiting, and sweating.

If I remember correctly, Lorazepam is an anti anxiety med right? NOT an anti depressant?
There are some antidepresants available for use during nursing, but I'm not aware of anti anxiety meds that have been labeled "safe"...
Make sure you talk to your doctor AND the pharmacist ...there have been several instances where my doctor has prescribed something and after double checking with the Pharmacist...I've had the prescription changed because despite my constant questioning about the safety of usage during nursing ...sometimes the doctors just prescribe what they're used to prescribing instead of doing a little research to find the right drug for each individual patient.
Good Luck
Q: Is it ok to Drink after taking Lorazepam?
I take 1 mg only when needed. The last time I took one was at 2PM yesterday is it ok to drink tonight?
A: What should I avoid while taking Ativan®?
Use caution while driving. In some patients, lorazepam may cause dizziness, drowsiness, and slowed reaction time. Make sure you know how you react to this medication before you drive, operate machinery, or do other activities that may be dangerous if you are not alert.
Avoid drinking alcohol or using illegal drugs as this may increase sedation, toxicity and the risk of overdose.
Avoid skipping or missing doses of this medication.
*Note though* I take Xanax 2mg a day and drink although it says pretty much the samething as Lorazepam - I would call a pharamist where you filled your prescription and see what they say if your are worried.
Personal expereience with me on Xanax and alchol... cannot drink as much ;)
Q: Has anyone experienced withdrawal after taking low-dosages of Lorazepam?
I have been taking 1mg of lorazepam for 4 months now. I started out taking the pill 3x's a day, and I am now down to just one a day. I have noticed that when I have went a few days without taking a pill, i began to show some signs of withdrawal. I usually start feeling really dizzy, and have some tingling in my head. Is this normal?
A: yes, it is normal.
Q: I am taking Lorazepam and I am also exclusively breastfeeding?
My doctor prescribed me this medication because he said it is safe to take while breastfeeding.
I understand it is safe, but if it did somehow secrete into my breastmilk, how would it affect the baby?
Would it have a temporary effect and make her a little calm for a while, (it is antianxiety medication)
OR would there be some long term effect that I am not aware of?
A: The American Academy of Pediatrics considers the effects of lorazepam on the nursing infant to be unknown, but they may be of concern if exposure is prolonged.
Q: I have been taking Lorazepam for about a week (.05Mg to 1Mg), will I suffer withdrawal symptoms?
I'm taking them for anxiety and I don't like how they're making me feel. I've only been on it a week. Will I suffer withdrawal symptoms?
Also, I've been reading about the long-term effects of addiction and withdrawal and that doesn't look to enticing either. Does anyone know if I will have withdrawal symptoms after one week? How long can they last for?
A: I was on 1mg each night for a month. I have since run out and currently cannot close my eyes as I practicably get nauseous from my head spinning and I'm having ongoing palpitations. I am now convinced that my original reason for taking it in the first place has been replaced with an ever progressing tolerance/withdrawal of the drug.
It is very addictive. Ask your doctor for less addictive or longer acting solutions.
I have no idea how long the withdrawals will be but from what I've read, this one month 1mg a day usage can take up to 2 weeks to recover. I really don't want to get back on it but I may have to to taper off.
