Q: Paxil withdrawal?
I've been on 20 mg. of paxil for about 3 months. I was just wondering how long would I have to be on it to experience the horrible withdrawal side effects when getting off of it? Now, 6 months...etc...
Thanks for any input!
A: Many psychoactive medications can cause withdrawal symptoms upon discontinuation from administration. Evidence has shown that paroxetine has among the highest incidence rates and severity of SSRI (Paxil) discontinuation syndrome of any medication of its class. Common paroxetine withdrawal symptoms include repeated electrical shock sensations of the brain and body, vertigo and hot flashes. Suicidal ideation is a frequently reported experience in those withdrawing from SSRIs (Paxil). For those experiencing extreme and unusual difficulty discontinuing paroxetine, it is recommended that an SSRI (Paxil) with a longer half-life, such as fluoxetine (Prozac), be administered for approximately two weeks, then discontinued, to lessen symptoms.
I wish you all the best! Please make sure yo are under the care of your doctor before you try to come off Paxil.

Q: Does anyone have any tips on alleviating Paxil withdrawal symptoms?
I have been taken Paxil for about three years now and about four days ago my prescription ran out and the pharmacy I go to will not be open until Wednesday the 27th. I'm not wanting to stop taking my medicine all together I just need some tips on coping with these horrible withdrawal symptoms including: dizziness, fatigue, irritability, sudden crying outbursts and feelings of panic. Any suggestions would be of great help.
A: When I withdrew from Paxil, I had like little electrical shocks in my body. You have to calm yourself. I fear that you are psychologically addicted to it. Meaning that now that you have been off for only a day or two, you are freaking out. Calm down. Think things through. When you are hit with panic, slow down and concentrate on breathing. Do relaxing things that take your mind off of the panic. Don't be so hard on yourself. It takes weeks to get it out of your system. Plus, it is Christmas so it is bound to be more stressful on you. Just try and take it easy for the next couple of days. Be strong. The 27th is coming. Good luck!
Q: How long do Paxil withdrawal sypmtoms last? I am off the drug now and am one irritable guy, will this go away?
Paxil, withdrawal symptoms, irritability and anger.
A: It really depends on the half-life of the medication and the dosage you were taking etc.
I know prozac has a 2 week half-life, but sometimes it can take 6-12 weeks for the withdrawal symptoms to arrive.
Im not too sure about Paxil, but if you were on them for a while it will be a bumpy ride for a bit longer.
It WILL get better, it will just take a bit of time.
I feel for you. Withdrawing is torture.
Take care and good luck!
Q: Has anyone experienced Paxil Withdrawal or Wellbutrin side effects?
I started taking Wellbutrin Sr a few days ago. I was on Paxil Cr and switched meds because of the weight gain of Paxil. I stopped taking Paxil Cr cold turkey. And now I feel horrible. My body is shaking within, memory loss for a second or two, slurred words, dizziness, imbalance, fever, tipical flu like symptoms. I know that these are symptoms of withdrawal, but I just wanted to know if anyone has gone through this and how long did it last. I'm going on vacation soon and I don't want to be miserable.
I did go to the doctor. I was on paxil about a year and a half ago, stopped cold turkey and no side effects. So he said if I did it then, then it probly would be ok to stop. I just can't tell if it's side effects of Wellbutrin or withdrawal, or both combined. I am going back to the doctors today. Hopefully he'll tell me something good.
A: If I were you, I would be very clear with the doctor and let him know you need to be weaned off. Cold turkey off antidepressants is not a good idea...it can be most unpleasant. But if you cut down gradually, you should be able to avoid those side effects. I have found that going down slowly to the smallest dose possible and then taking that tiny dose every other day before stopping altogether works very well for me. I've been dealing with bipolar since I was a child and I'm very familiar with and well informed regarding medications. Your doctor isn't the boss...he (or she) should be your partner in your treatment. you have every right to stand up for yourself and make sure you are getting what you need. There is no need to suffer with those withdrawal symptoms when it is so easily avoidable by weaning slowly.
It's not too late...you can still do this.
I don't know about Paxil specifically, but I have taken Wellbutrin with Zoloft...with Celexa...and with Lexapro...so I know that it is possible to take both at the same time (and for me it was quite effective actually), but that is something to talk with the dr about because you may have circumstances that would make it a bit more risky (certain other health problems or medications).
Q: How long does Paxil withdrawal last?
How long am I going to be going through this hellish Paxil withdrawal? My doctor weaned me down from 20mg to 10mg and I am stopping the 10mg next week. I am so afraid that something is going to happen to me. Someone please help!
A: I have gone through that and it is tough. It seems like it was a couple of weeks before it started subsiding. Sorry :( but it wil stop.
Q: What are the probalility, duration, and severity of paroxetine (Paxil) withdrawal symptoms?
How many people experience withdrawal symptoms?
What is the duration and severity of those symptoms in those who experience them?
A: 1. How many people experience withdrawal symptoms? 66% according to two studies.
2. What is the duration and severity of those symptoms in those who experience them? Varies from mild and transient, to prolonged and protracted. It varies from individual to individual.
Q: Do you know anyone who has undergone in-patient treatment for paxil withdrawal?
I've been on paxil for 5 years, and I've tried to get off of it 3 or 4 times, unsuccessfully.
A: I have been on/off paxil for about 13 years - I am now on something new. It is so hard to come off of it. I remember getting something like electricity zipping through my brain and dizziness to the point of nausea. I have always tried to do the weaning they recommend- I started out fine but it seemed like I was just prolonging the withdrawal so what I did was start out weaning myself off for 3-5 days, as long as I could take and then go off it completely. I know it is not recommended to do this but this is the only way I could, it seemed the withdrawal would go on forever if I didn't. I pretty much took it easy, resting lots, for about two days after stopping it and then found I was okay enough to go back to normal living, by a week I was done withdrawal. Good luck
Q: How Long Does Paxil Withdrawal Effects Last?
I've been on paxil for the last year and a half and it has helped me allot with my Social anxiety. but last month i was thinking that i can do it by myself i am not gonna depend on this for life i can do it, so i quitpaxil and also cause my insurance co, switched providers and my new providor did not want to prescribe it because he wasnt a psychiatrist. so i got tired of looking for a new one so i just decided that was enough. Im experiencing the withdrawal effects Cold Turkey, I feel ZAPS in my brain and throught my body speially when i stretch my back and i feel allot of agression toward people for no reason and i feel like a stuffy head feeling, like if i was gonna get hte flu and i feel like i aint worth cr9p that no one wants me. it sbeen already 2 and a half Weeks since i was off paxil, im scared of these electric zaps and my Agression,Howdidyou COpe with it is there anything i can take to calm my agression and make me feel confortable, and how longdoes the witdrawal effects last
after you paxil was out of your system did you feel any of these symptoms and did you feel normal before you were Pre-Paxil
A: The duration of the withdrawal process seems to vary from individual to individual. In my own experience, the worst was over after the first two weeks. Still, three weeks into it, I was far from feeling normal though. It took around six weeks for all the symptoms to subside.
Its hard, but worth it. Hang in there and be kind to yourself. I find exercise helped a lot with some of the withdrawl and helped keep me somewhat sane.
Good luck.

Q: How long do Paxil withdrawal symptoms last?
I am tapering off my Paxil and I still get vertigo/dizziness...
how long until this feeling goes away for good?
Non-habit forming my aunt fannie!!!
A: I wish I knew how long you have been titrating off of it.
Usually, symptoms should resolve within a week. It wouldn't hurt to add some serotonin to your system to help it withdraw. Two things you might try:
1) Rescue Remedy, sold at all Whole Foods and other health food stores. Use every fifteen minutes until you get some relief. It's OTC, no RX needed and
2) Serotain. Also over the counter. I recommend the brand listed at http://www.vitacost.com/Natrol-Serotain?csrc=PPCADWLT-serotain&s_kwcid=serotain|1742941091. It's the precursor to serotonin, and it really helps me.
It's hard coming off of antidepressants. I won't kid you about that. The slower you titrate off, the easier it is. But it's never perfectly easy.
Q: How long before paxil withdrawal symptoms dissapate?
I have now been aropax free for 5 weeks. I was told by the medical profession that it only took 7-10 days to withdraw from methadone..... when in reality it was months/years not days. Hence interested in what real people have to say.
A: I was on paxil for 1 year (worst year of my life I might add) and still 6 years later every once in a while I get that buzzing, static shock feeling running through my body, completely unpleasant. For the first year it was almost constant through the day. So what can I say, I always tell everyone who asks, and I suggest they really look into some other medication, because I least for me its been HELL.
I truly hope its not so bad for you.
Q: Does everyone get withdrawal from paxil or not?
Ok, My question is, do ALL the people who stop taking paxil suffer from withdrawal? Or only some? Reason im asking is because I heave recently been prescribed paxil and I did some research online. Alot of people claim that paxil did help them but quitting just made them feel worse because of withdrawal side effects. However when I told my mom about it she said she was on paxil for 1 year and when she stopped cold turky she suffered no withdrawal affects at all. SO what gives?
A: it is true that everyone "copes" differently. It also has to do with how long you were taking it. Immediately after stopping you will feel a little emotional but it's not that bad as soon as everything levels out. I quit taking Effexor XR and that is in the top two that are the hardest to get off of. I listened to other people's stories about going off of it and it TERRIFIED me, but when I went off it wasn't that bad. I was a little weepy for a few days but now I feel better than I did before I even started it. Good luck.
Q: Why did my psychiatrist not inform me of Paxil withdrawal symptoms when prescribing it?
A: I'm not sure because mine didn't either. I had to ask to come off them and when I told them my horrible side effects they wanted to prescribe something different so it seems as though they aren't expecting you to come off them.
Q: Can Xanax help with Paxil CR withdrawal symptoms?
I take 37.5 mg Paxil CR--could taking Xanax help with the withdrawals of stopping Paxil?
A: Taking Xanax might cause more problems as some people do abuse and I used to be one of them. Ask your doc for the best option. Not cool to fool around with meds.
