Q: Depression questions?
My mother has depression, ive known this my entire life and i knew even when i was 8 years old that her mood swings were because of it, and ever since i was 10 i have been having symptoms of depression, not just a couple but most of them.. from what ive seen and been told about it, it scares me and i dont want to be depressed!!!
how can i ask my parents to see a therapist, or see a doctor about it? i know that depression is a chemical imbalance in your brain that sets off your moods.. im 14 and i know i dont completely understand it. So ive had these symptoms for the past 4 years and just in the past 6 months or so, they have gotten worse and expanded
Please help!!
(my last question, similar to this but explains my symptoms)

A: Oh dear =[
I feel you, I really do.
Don't be scared, please don't. I cant really say that you SHOULDN'T be scared, because it IS a problem, just don't deny it. If you think that you are depressed, than you probably are.
If you have been feeling hopelessness, depression, mood swings, feelings of being alone, desperate, sullenness, if you have had suicidal of self injury thoughts, or even if you are in a bad, sad mood and feel like you can not get out of it, these are all symptoms. There have also been study's of physical symptoms like headaches, back aches, stomach aches, etc. Do not ignore them.
No one wants to be depressed, it is something that just happens... it is no ones fault.. but it CAN be helped.
One way that you can ask your parents/doctor about it is when you go for a check up, when the doctor asks if you are 'happy' say no. Tell your doctor everything. Also, just tell your parents! Just be like 'i've had so many mood swings and i'm always frustrated and depressed/in a bad mood.. I don't like it.." then just go on from there. If you are scared, start off writing yourself a letter. Then maybe tell a close friend or family member. There ARE understand people out there.
You should NOT be ashamed!
We have to work together and raise awareness and help ourselves and others through this. Rise from the darkness and into the light. =] Have hope and always believe that you have enough power to make your life a better one.
I would get help before it is too late. Too late as in taking your own life or having scars, not just on the inside and mentally, on the outside. Physical scars.
Please get help. You do not deserve to hurt any longer.
<3 much love and strength
Q: Depression Questions!?
Okay I don't really understand all this jive about depression. I have a couple of friends who have been diagnosed with it and I when they tell me about how they used to act before they got meds, I dont understand why they couldn't just stop. I know it's a hormonal imbalance, but if its a medical problem that means people have been living with it for years, but without medicine.
These people who I know who have the disorder ALL do not have strong parental figures and have endured trauma during their childhood. Could that be a cause? Do you think that's a direct link to it? Or is that totally off base?
Another question, is medicine the answer? Maybe it's cynical of me, but it seems that in American society today, there is a pill for everything? Almost any and everything requies medicine to people. That may be becausepharmacuetical (sp?) companies are corporate monsters, but that's a convo for another day.
Anyhow. Is there an alternative to drugs? There has to be something else?
A: Hi, I suffer from bi-polar disorder and I am sectioned under the compulsory mental health act and so I can relate to what you are saying about meds. I don't take my medications and I run the risk of getting into legal crap due to the act. BUT when all is said and done its my body and I have been on various meds for 20 years with little relief from my symptoms.
I did have a lot of trauma in my early childhood and actually all my life - I am now early forties. And I do believe that it has impacted in my lack of ability to cope at times and it affects my health big time. Eg if I have a low mood I sink so bloody low that I can't function for weeks even months on end.
I am currently telling the doctors that I take my meds (to keep them off my back) but I throw them away and I am trying a vitamin rich diet with lots of raw veges and omega fish oil.
Labels and drugs are chucked out way too readily in my opinion, and I have often told my shrink that I feel that my bi-polar is directly related to past events that I have been unable to deal with.
I have given myself a six month time frame to see if I can self-improve my health through diet, exercise and attitude.
Q: depression questions?
how do you tell your mom that you think you might have depression and think you should go to a pshyciatrist to see if you do?
will your mom just find out or ask you?
can physiatrists really tell if you have a hormone embalance??
please respond
A: There's really no way of tip toe-ing around the whole conversation. Be up front with her about it and tell her what & how you've been feeling. You should have her set up an appointment for you with a psychologist if you both feel it might help you after talking. (You don't necessarily need a psychiatrist unless you need meds, which a psychologist can help you determine.)
Mom could find out if you start acting differently and would probably approach you if she felt worried.
My parents didn't find out until I told them...4 years later when I hit rock bottom. I was very good at hiding it as well as being in denial about it. No one EVER caught on because I made sure to always be happy when I was around others. When I finally told my parents, it was rough because they didn't understand it all. With all the information out there about depression, it's a lot easier to get help for it and there's more info that you can research. That's why it's important to catch it while it's still in the "beginning stages" so you can address the issue.
The only way that anyone can "really" tell you if there is any imbalance is if they scan your brain.
A psychiatrists job is to listen to you and through that see whether or not something is "off" based on what they tell you, so if you end up at one, be sure to tell the truth about EVERYTHING so that they can help with diagnosing you as well as figuring out which type of med can help balance everything out.

A: duloxetine + money + women = happiness
if you lack one of these, get it. however hard. duloxetine seems the easiest one to start with, then work on the next two at the same time! it will be hard but duloxetine will give you the armor and energy to do it. trust. good luck.

How do you get through it, the day to day stuff. how do you talk about your problems without sounding like you want a pity party. what are some things that help you keep your mind off of it.
A: I got help from a pychiatrist. I do psychotherapy once a week. I also take lexapro for the depression and it really helps lighten my mood.
I also do light therapy, yoga and meditation. Major depression isnt really something you can just ignore and it will go away. It needs professional help. When I start to feel really bad, I try deep breathing and saying things to myself that the therapist said to.
Q: Depression - what questions will my doctor ask?
I am feeling depressed and after much encouragement from others have finally booked an appointment to see my doctor. I am concerned about how I can describe my symptoms to a doctor, what questions is she likely to ask?
A: Very little compared to a psychiatric interview, but you may want to find effective ways to explain your feelings most fully, and also the effects and impact its having on your life, as this is one of the more effective ways the extent of a depressive illness is given (the extent of the disabling effect it is having on a life).
Common features would be aspects of your sex life, eating habits, sleeping patterns and so on and how they are compared to times you may have felt much better in yourself.
Often nurses that could visit you regarding depression would ask you to rate your current mood on a scale, as would many CBT therapists.
That would come later though, the doctor may want to send you to a specialist psychiatrist.
Just be honest, and practice ways to express your feelings, its very hard to do, theres no easy diagnosis so it relies on your ability to convey your feelings, and like I said, the impact its having on other parts of your life.
