Q: What's the difference between Zyban and Wellbutrin?
I know that the 2 of them have bupropion, but can you use Zyban as antidepressant and Wellbutrin in smoking cessation? We have a patient who uses Wellbutrin as antidepressant but he smokes and he said he has no problems.
A: I would only talk with a doctor or pharmacist about that and not rely on this type of forum.
Regarding Wellbutrin, I took that very briefly for adhd (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) and it, unfortunately, made me extremely dizzy to where I couldn't function as well as causing a quickness to anger. Another doctor later mentioned that Wellbutrin may not even be that effective for adhd anyway ;)
Q: Is Wellbutrin helpful with depression? Can you just stop taking it if it doesnt work?
I was just prescribed it for 150mg. I took Zoloft first but it made me gain weight so I switched to Wellbutrin. If you've taken it did it help?
I'm 17 and have had depression and anxiety for like 2 years but just now started getting treated for it. I could really use info about this drug.
Please tell me your experiences.
A: I take generic Wellbutrin SR (150 mg) in the morning, and Lexapro (10 mg) with dinner, for depression and anxiety. I've been taking that for over two years, and it's working very well for me.
The Wellbutrin SR seems to help me to be more alert and active - and wanting to do things - while the Lexapro makes me more mellow, and it helps me sleep better, too. They are relatively low doses of each medication, which keeps side effects at a minimum. I really can't tell I'm taking any medication at all.
I've heard of a lot of people who take Wellbutrin with their SSRI's (which is what Zoloft and Lexapro are). It helps counteract some of the bad side effects of the SSRI - such as weight gain, lack of energy, and the sexual side effects.
So, you can, if you need to, take both Zoloft and Wellbutrin. 150 mg of Wellbutrin is not a lot, and you might need a low dose of Zoloft to go along with it.
Best of luck to you :-)
Q: Can wellbutrin 150mg cause a positive drug test for cocaine?
I took a drug test and it showed up positive for cocaine and i have not been around it whatsoever. Iam currently taking wellbutrin 150mg, Straterra100mg, Trazadone300mg and am curious to know if that would be effecting the drug test. Iam very concerned what could be breaking down in my body.
A: It is also possible that they mixed your test up with another person's. The labs are not infallible. If you know you didn't use cocaine that seems like a real possibility. Sorry that happened to you.
Q: Could Wellbutrin cause a woman to have a miscarriage or be unable to get pregnant?
I have had two healthy pregnancies. In April of this year I had a miscarriage and since then I can not seem to get pregnant. My husband and I are charting my temperature so we are most aware of my ovualtion time. I feel that Wellbutrin could be affecting my inability to keep a pregnancy or even get pregnant.
A: My doctor took me off of Wellbutrin because I used it as a stop smoking method although it is used for depression. Yes it is NOT healthy for the baby. I don't know if it will keep you from getting preg.. yet I DO know MY doctor told me it CAN cause a miscarriage. BEST WISHES sorry about your loss.
Q: How do you stop the itching from Wellbutrin?
I have been on Wellbutrin for a few months now. I have been itching for the past two weeks. It only happens at night. I can't get to see my dr for two weeks. Is there anyway to stop this itching temporarily?
Cortizone and benadryl didn't work. I can't just stop taking my meds either.
A: Take benadryl and call you doctor. You should stop taking it for now and call an emergency room in the area to see if you shoud be seen. Call your doc to see if he wants you to stop taking it for good. You are having an allergic reaction.
Q: Wellbutrin XL - How long does it take to start working and what can I expect in the meantime?
I started taking Wellbutrin XL a little over two weeks ago. I started on 150mg and 4 days ago increased that dosage to 300mg. I felt better quickly after starting the medication and had 2 low days before I increased the dosage. The past two days I have been really depressed. Is this normal? Will it get better or should I talk to my doctor about another medication?
Also, I have had insomnia for 2 months - I guess a result of anxiety and depression. I have read that Wellbutrin XL can cause insomnia. Will that side effect go away? (I don't know if it's causing it in me since I had it before.)
Thanks!
A: Wait for another few days and take the 300mg. and if it persists see a doctor, Wellbutrin might not be the right antidepressant for you.
Some people will respond better to Paxil or Prozac or other drugs.
Sometimes the doctor might have to experiment with different pills and see what works best for you.
Q: How long do the side effects of Wellbutrin last?
I have been taking 75mg of Wellbutrin for a week. I am already feeling some positive effects but today I have been trembling quite a bit. Trembling is not on the side effects sheet my pharmacist gave me. Is this a common side effect? How long on average do the side effects last?
A: Don't be afraid to go back to the pharmacist or call to get a consult. Just because a side effect isn't listed, does not mean it can't happen.
Length of time of side effects varies from person to person. I was nauseous on Wellbutrin and it lasted about a week. Another drug we tried gave me numb and tingling hands and feet and a month later there was still tingling - I went off the med.
Also, don't be afraid to talk to your doctor. It may be that the dosage needs to be adjusted. If that doesn't work, there are lots of other meds out there.
Finally, make sure you rule out other causes. Caffeine, dietary changes and stress could all cause trembling. A dairy (including foods and meds and any side effects) can help you and your doctor trace the source of the problem.
I always throw in a suggestion of nontrarditional remedies. Meditation (there are lots of CDs you can buy to help) is great for so many issues and can help you feel more in control. It probably won't eliminate the side effect, but it will can give you greater inner peace.
Seek out help. Your doctor and pharmacist are your best allies.
Good luck!
Q: How soon can I expect withdrawal symptoms from Wellbutrin?
I've been on Wellbutrin XL for 4 years now, 300mg once daily. I've run out of medication. Anyone have any idea how soon I can expect to see any or all of the withdrawal symptoms I've read about?
A: As someone who has been on wellbutrin for nearly 6 years, I would say you'll start to experience minor withdrawal symptoms after about 3 or 4 days. Although, you may not experience full-blown withdrawal for 2 or 3 weeks. Just be careful though, this is not a medication you can come off of cold-turkey.
Q: What do you think of the drug Wellbutrin?
I've never been diagnosed with depression, but I am kinda shy and get warm when talking in front of large groups of people. I think Wellbutrin has helped me with this feeling, and I've actually become more talkative to others and people seem to think my sense of humor has improved. Is this normal effects of Wellbutrin? Are there any bad side effects I should be worried about? My doctor thinks it's a good drug. He said it should also help curb my road rage problem.
A: There are negative side effects, but if you haven't noticed any by now then I wouldn't worry about them.
Possible side effects include:
*headache or migraine;
*sleep problems (insomnia);
*nausea, vomiting, constipation, dry mouth;
*confusion, dizziness, agitation, tremors (shaking);
*appetite changes, weight loss or gain;
*mild itching or skin rash, increased sweating; or
*loss of interest in sex.
Side effects other than those listed here may also occur. Talk to your doctor about any side effect that seems unusual or that is especially bothersome.
You should not take Wellbutrin if you have epilepsy or a seizure disorder, an eating disorder such as anorexia or bulimia, if you are using a second form of bupropion, or if you have suddenly stopped using alcohol or sedatives. Do not take Wellbutrin if you have taken a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) such as isocarboxazid (Marplan), phenelzine (Nardil), rasagiline (Azilect), selegiline (Eldepryl), or tranylcypromine (Parnate) in the last 14 days.
I've been down a shitload of SSRIs, and other mood stabilizers (I have dysthymia and sever depression). I recieved no effect one way or the other from Wellbutrin, but since then have been diagnosed with some loopy type of "treatment-resistent" depression.
Wellbutrin/Buproprion is a well-recieved drug, and if you feel like you're getting some benefit out of it, then I would stick with it. If necessary, you could also start an additional medicine to help augment the effects, if you feel that you're not reaching your potential.
There are also other options available for social anxiety disorder, such as Paxil, Zoloft, Effexor, and even beta-blockers like Atenolol. I've tried Zoloft and Atenolol at different times, and they really helped me a lot.
Best of luck!
Q: For people who take Wellbutrin, how long does it take before you start feeling better?
I tried Wellbutrin several years ago and combined it with Prozac. It was just plain Wellbutrin 75 mg, the yellow pill. Later my doctor only wanted to keep me on one med so he discontinued the Wellbutrin. Later I tried it again, Wellbutrin SR, and when taken alone it caused extreme anxiety so I stopped taking it. A few years ago I tried the 150 XL and it caused severe itching but my mood improved tremendously when combined with Lexapro. I discontinued use and my depression got a lot worse. Now I have started it back up again but just take it every 3 days to see if my body will build a tolerance to it and then gradually increase the medicine until I am taking it every day. So far, I have had very mild skin irritation and I have been taking it for about 11 days. Another question related related to the Wellbutrin: Has anyone tried Wellbutrin and not had itching the second time or your body built up a tolerance to it? Thanks.
A: Takes about 1 month. As far as the itching, I haven't experienced that myself, but I would try Benadryl or Claritin.
Q: Is it normal for Wellbutrin to take several hours to kick in?
Hi. I take Wellbutrin 300 XL for Adult ADD, and I always take my pill while getting ready in the morning - around 7 am. However, I am always spacy and foggy until 10 am. Should I take the WB at night? Thank you for your help!
A: I take Wellbutrin 300mg a day and I really do not notice any difference in concentration and I still feel foggy in the mind and very low energy at times.
Adderall is the medicine you need if your foggy minded and/or have add. I took 1 pill once and I felt like I could accomplish anything and had a good level of energy.
Q: What are the symptoms from Wellbutrin XR withdrawal?
I've been taking Wellbutrin XR for six months. I started on 150 mgs then went to 300 mgs. When I talked to my doctor about getting off it (caused horrible anxiety for me) he put me on 150 again so the withdrawal effects wouldn't be so harsh.
What are people's experiences with getting off this drug? How long do they last?
A: Stopping Wellbutrin abruptly may result in discontinuation syndrome expressed as dystonia, irritability, anxiety, mania, headache, aches and pains. As you are not stopping treatment abruptly, you might not even have any discontinuation syndrome, and if you get any symptoms once you're completely off the drug, it is unlikely to be severe or last longer than a week. It is even ok to stop Wellbutrin abruptly and the chances are you won't have any severe withdrawal symptoms. This is not to be confused with SSRI's and other classes of antidepressants which can induce a nightmare even with adequately tampered withdrawal. Wellbutrin is quite unique in it's mechanism of action, but it didn't work for me either, caused a massive panic attack.
In regards to your other question which is in voting (hope you choose a best answer for this one!), both weight gain and weight loss can happen with Trazodone, weight loss can happen with Wellbutrin, and Xanax generally increases the appetite, especially for fatty foods. If your diet hasn't changed, your most likely offender is Trazodone.
