Q: How long to notice full effect from Prozac?
I was on Paxil for 3 weeks, Effexor XR for 3 weeks, and now Prozac 20mg for the last 2 weeks. I'm not feeling nearly as depressed as I was a few weeks ago on the Effexor and a noticeable amount of anxiety related thoughts have gone away. How long should I wait though before the Prozac has its full effect?
A: They say it can take up to 6 weeks for the prozac to be fully effective.
Q: What is the known side effects of prozac?
When you have taken Prozac has it caused you to have upset stomach regardless if you taken it with or without food?
Also if you have I.B.S Irritable Bowel Syndrome and you take or have taken Prozac did it make your I.B.S worse?
A: Prozac as well as the other SSRIs can cause GI upset. However, they're the most widely prescribed anti-depressant class because their side effects aren't typically as severe as other classes of medications used to treat depression.
If your side effects are impacting your life, it's important that you contact your doctor or psychiatrist to talk about it. There may be better choices.
Q: What are the differences in side effects between Zoloft and Prozac?
They are both SSRIs so I'm assuming the same drug with maybe a little variation so they can call them 2 different ones, I don't know. But are there any noticeable differences between the two if you've taken both before or heard of any? I just started taking Prozac and don't like some of the side effects but don't know what the Zoloft ones are.
A: I took zoloft and lost 10 kilos in 3 months
that was really good and i didn't have moods but the appetite/weight loss was too severe
so i stopped it
the doctor said it's not normal to lose that much weight, then i guess that is not a general side effect of zoloft
SSRIs have pretty much similar symptoms
Q: I have been prescribed prozac durin my pregnancy as a replacement fr xanax and it dont work for me.?
The prozac (fluoxetine) makes me feel terrible and doesnt help my anxiety at all. The side effects are alot worse is there another option? And is the xanax any more dangerous than the prozac during pregnancy? The prozac is deffinately not the answer for me, I am not depressed, I have severe anxiety disorder!
A: Not really. Unfortunately xanax is really bad for the child. You may have to suck it up for the next 9 months.
Q: Is Prozac supposed to make you feel worse after just 4 days?
I've been prescribed Prozac (20mg) for mild depression (even though I am usually able to control it!) and have only been taking it for 4 days but for the last two I have felt really depressed (worse than normal). Is that supposed to happen with Prozac before it starts working and if it is, how long does it take to go away, or should I just ask my doctor to come off it?
A: When I first started taking Prozac, it took about 3 weeks to fully feel the effects of it. Right now you body is trying to get used to it so give it some time and things will get better.
Q: What is the proper way to ween off of Prozac?
I have been on 20mg of Prozac for a year and would like to come off. I talked to my doctor and she said take 10mg for 4 weeks and then stop entirely. It's been about a week on 10mg and I am having dizzy spells and the sweats, normal? Is this to much of a drop down too fast? Any suggestions. Any vitamins I should take?
A: If you're having the dizzy spells, it probably *was* too fast.
It's too bad they don't make sizes like 15 mg or 17.5 mg of Prozac.
There are various ways to reduce the amount you are taking. Please see my links.
As far as vitamins, some people do well with 3-6 grams of fish oil per day. Others swear by B-vitamins. Magnesium helps many.
My suggestion would be to have you as STABLE as possible before you were to try to get off of psych drugs - and with a doctor's help. Anyway, the idea is to eat a good well-balanced diet, get enough rest, enough fluid, no alcohol or illegal drugs. Be sure you have some good social support, including close friends, family, and/or a life partner who can just "be there" for you.
Q: How do you feel about the introduction of Prozac for dogs?
Reconcile (Prozac for dogs) was introduced in April this year and approved by Federal Drugs Administration in the United States for use on dogs suffering from separation anxiety from being left alone for long periods.
Is this a good thing? or will it turn us into a nation of pill poppers looking for a quick fix for our canines?
EDit:
Eli Lilly, which makes the new drug, says that more than 10 million US dogs exhibit strange symptoms from being left alone too long.
A: There are some animals that need medications just like humans do. Before someone is quick to put their dogs on meds, they should be taking them to a animal behaviorist first for other options.
Q: Can you buy Prozac at a grocery store or does it have to be prescribed?
I've been feeling really depressed for the past couple of months and it's really effecting my school work and my social life. Is it possible to buy Prozac at a grocery store? Or am I going to have to get it from my doctor?
A: You have to have a prescription and get it from a pharmacy. See a psychiatrist for a prescription sometimes a general practitioner can prescribe it but that isn't recommended because their specialty is not mental health.
Q: What are the side effects of overdosing on prozac?
I'm just curious of the side effects of overdosing on prozac. What are the most fatal side effects?
A: The most fatal effect is that it can be fatal, you can die from it although it does depend on age weight height previous history. If your considering taking a overdose then I urge you to seek out help from your local emergency department and tell them how your feeling.
If you have taken a extra dose by mistake try not to worry too much and give a doctor a call to have a chat on the phone to check your ok.
I am sorry I cant be more helpful without a more specific question
Q: What are the side effects of coming off prozac?
I've been on prozac for about year now on 40mg a day. My doctor told me it was fine to cut down to 20mg and then slowly come of completely. However, I always feel tired and sick. I feel spaced out most of the time and its hard to do things whilst feeling like this. Any ideas on what to do?
A: Stop taking prozac
Q: What requirements are different for Prozac than other antidepressants?
I am wondering about antidepressants and stuff. Like, what would make me take Prozac apart from other antidepressants. If possible, just post a list of things that would make someone take prozac (specifically)
Thanks
A: There really isn't a list. It's more your doctor's choice to see what he thinks will work best for you.
Prozac is the first choice for a lot of doctors. There are many antidepressants out there, what works really well for someone might not work well for someone else's body.
I have tried 3 or 4 before, I found one that worked for me. I have a friend that takes one I couldn't and it was their first medication. They are doing really well.
Q: What happens if you take prozac and St Johns wort at the same time?
Can anyone tell me the effects of taking prozac and st johns wart at the same time? Thank you.

Q: Does any know if taking Prozac and eating chocolate can cause a skin rash?
Does any know if taking Prozac and eating chocolate can cause a skin rash? Or eating any other food can cause rashes?
A: I don't think so. I took prozac for a long time, and I never noticed any rashes after eating particular foods.
Q: Is it normal to have withdrawal symptoms from Prozac three weeks after coming off it?
I stopped taking prozac about three weeks ago after slowly coming off it. I felt a lot better and I didn't experience any withdrawal symptoms. However the past few days I've been feeling extremely ill and out of sorts, and all the things I've been experiencing match up to Prozac withdrawal symptoms. Is it normal or even possible to have withdrawal symptoms this long after coming off it?
A: Yes, you need to see your GP, it will get worse.
Q: Is it safe to take Prozac whilst being on Levothyroxine?
My doctor wants me to take Prozac for Depression/OCD but I am also taking Levothyroxine for an under-active thyroid. Does anyone know from personal experience if this is a good idea or not? My doctor seems a bit vague on the whole subject.
A: Seems like it is safe. From drugs. com:
"fluoxetine(Prozac) and levothyroxine (Minor Drug-Drug)
Case reports suggest that thyroid hormone supplementation may enhance the therapeutic effects of fluoxetine in the treatment of major depression. The mechanism is unknown."
