Q: paxil....?
ive recently been put on paxil for anxiety. i am also a big drinker. i asked my doctor if i could drink on paxil and he said a couple of drinks wont hurt. but then i read on some websites that paxil actually makes people want to drink more. the guy who wrote the article i read said he started drinking more on paxil and didnt see any problems. my question is what are some of the consequences of drinking while on paxil? and if you take paxil do you drink?

A: there are no certain studies in literature that Paxil (paroxetine) can make people want to drink more... at least we can say paroxetine doesnt effect to increase need of alcohol... during abstinence or normal daily life of a person who drinks little or more beverages with alcohol... like other antidepressants especially SSRI s, after recovery of depression or just a few days between depression and improvement of depression, some peoples need take alcohol. short psychotherapy can solve this problem....

Q: PAXil.....?
can paxil (peroxitine) be used for treating bipolar? also how is the effectiveness of paxil compared to the othe ssri's such as zoloft, lexapro, etc...?

A: Everyone reacts diffeferently on different medications. I tried 2 different ones before i found the right one for me, u may have to go thru trial and error like alot of people do. Give it a week and if it isnt working for you, i would talk to your doc about a different medication. I tried paxil because i have a panic disorder, it made my anxiety worse. I tried lexapro, and it made me feel like i had the stomach flu. Now i am on celexa and it works wonderful, i am able to work a full time job again and live a normal life. Your doctor will work with u til u find the right one, and i am not sure if it is used for bipolar disorder, but u can go to www.webmd.com and go under drugs and treatments, and u can look up paxil and it will tell u what it is used for, what the side effects are , etc. Good luck to you!

My husband has been taking Paxil for the past 7 years now and still has problems dealing with everyday life. He has severe mood swings, letting the littlest things bother him. I have been told that Cipralex is supposed to be better then Paxil? These mood swings have been very difficult with our marriage and i don't want to give up on him but i'm not sure how much longer i can take these mood swings.

I take paxil, but tonight I might have a couple of drinks. If I take the paxil at 3pm will I be ok if I have a few drinks at like 9pm?

A: You aren't supposed to have alcoholic beverages at all so the time is irrelevant.

Q: How long does it take for Paxil to get out of your system?
I'm switching from Paxil 40 mg to Wellbutrin. I took half doses (20 mg) for five days while taking the Wellbutrin. My doctor told me to take the half dose of Paxil for another week but I don't want to. This is my second day without any Paxil. I'm only taking the Wellbutrin. Is it okay to stop the Paxil now and how long does Paxil stay in your system?

A: I would do what your doctor suggests! After 7 years training and many years experience they usually have a fair idea. I'd say not less than 10 days to get out of your system.

Q: How long does it take for Paxil to become fully effective?
I started taking 20mg of Paxil two weeks ago for anxiety, and one week ago my doctor said I could start taking 30mg a day. How long does it take for Paxil to become fully effective?

A: It normally will take 2-4 weeks to get into your system. All people are different and different meds affect people in all ways. But 2-4 week is the typical time. Also switching you from 20mg to 30 mg is normal, they always start you on something low, and then gradually increase your dose.

Q: How should take Paxil 10mg to treat premature ejaculation?
I just need to know how should take Paxil 10mg to treat P E.Should take it one hour before sex ?HOW?Thank you! Please serious answers.

A: The drug may be taken daily or about four hour before intercourse, although daily use is more effective. It takes one to two weeks for the daily dosing to become effective, and many men find that they can then stop the daily dose and just take the medication when they’re expecting to have intercourse. Hope I Helped!

Q: What exactly is the difference between Paxil and Paxil CR?
I'm looking for an SSRI to treat social anxiety disorder, GAD, and PMDD. I've tried Zoloft but the low dose did nothing and the higher doses gave me nasty side effects. I need to try something else and have come across Paxil, but can't figure out the difference between the regular and controlled release. Does CR treat my illnesses more effectively? Or what?

A: I have taken both Paxil and now take the Paxil CR and I find that it's much more effective throughout the day. Continual Release meds are just that....they last all day long and can give you more even release. I like it. retired nurse

Q: How long after stopping Paxil before I will experience discontinuation symptoms?
I have run out of my meds and today is the 4th day in a row where I haven't taken Paxil.

A: Suddenly ceasing your medication without proper medical advice/assistance is not only dangerous it is really not wise. Your withdrawl symptoms could be life threatening. These types of medication need to be slowly withdrawn (decreasing dosage over a period of weeks/months). Please get to the doctor and discuss this.

Q: How long until Paxil effects start happening?
I just started taking Paxil today and I was curious how long it normally takes before you start feeling the effects? I thought it was 2-3 weeks, but I'm not sure.

A: Basically to get a certain baseline of medication to have the correct effect with anti-depressants I would say 2 weeks although some effects will be felt within 3 days just hang in there as the 2 weeks will feel interminable until such time.

Q: What are the Paxil side-effects for breastfeeding mothers?
My wife was prescribed Paxil for post-partum depression. Since she is breastfeeding she would like to know what effect it will hve on the baby?

A: Paxil has low blood plasma levels in the mother, and a low transfer rate to human milk. It was undetected in the blood plasma of 7 of 8 breastfed infants in one study, all 16 of the infants in a second study, and all 24 of the infants in a third study. For babies exposed to paxil in utero, there is evidence that withdrawal may occur 24-48 hours after birth.
