Q: Doxepin ?????
Anyone taken Doxepin?? and why? does it work for anxiety/tension? what Mg do you take?

A: Doxepin is in a group of drugs called tricyclic antidepressants. Doxepin affects chemicals in the brain that may become unbalanced. Doxepin is used to treat symptoms of depression and/or anxiety associated with alcoholism, psychiatric conditions, or manic-depressive conditions.

Q: Is it ok to take Amitriptyline and Doxepin together?
I am already on 150 of Doxepin a day, and was prescribed 50 mg/day Amitriptyline for my muscle pain. They are both tricyclic antidepressants so is it ok to take them together? Also, my pain is pretty severe, so what dosage of Amitriptyline will I likely need for pain? The same doctor prescribed both.

A: were you prescribed both prescriptions by the same doc. I would cut back to 50 or 100 mg/day of the Doxepin and 50 of the Amitriptyline.....What did your Doc say???

Q: Doxepin is an antidepressant with H2 antagonist properties. Does it have GI effects?
H2 antagonism reduces gastric acid secretion. Zantac, Tagamet, and a couple others are used to treat heartburn. Does doxepin's H2 antagonism reduce gastric acid secretion in a similar way? Would it make for an effective heartburn medication?

A: Yes, it could be used to treat ulcers, but it isn't good for GERD because of its anticholinergic properties, so it may make heartburn worse instead of better. There's little reason to use it for that purpose at any rate, simply because of the better alternatives you listed.

Q: Can anyone help me with how long deptran/doxepin withdrawal last?
I can't sleep, my muscles clench, skin burns and tingles. I can't urinate, brain zaps, dizziness. It's been 22 days since I stopped taking 25mg Deptran and the withdrawal is still going on. Has anyone else been through this & how much longer will it continue?? I'm at my wits end!

A: Heck, that's bad, some of those symptoms r serious in themselves and u really should either go to a hospital or visit a doctor real soon, as in today. Fact is 25mg of Deptran is a relatively low dose (ppl take up to 300mg a day in maximum dose of 150mg at a time, so twice daily), so its weird that u r suffering so much. Did you taper off the dose or stop cold turkey? (could have done half tablet for a week, then quarter for a week etc). Not urinating is a real problem and i would not be sure that 22 days after ceasing medication that that medication or its absence is the source of your suffering. So contact a doctor or hospital emergency room now. be safe, be sage

Q: Doxepin question for anyone thats went threw the after care?
Has anyone had withdrawls from it and how lond did it last? second party has taken it for 1 1/2 years and stopped at 300mg's. Thanks for your time.

A: I have the link to a site that may help you find more information. It's at: http://www.WebMD.com They have messageboards on the site that may help you find even more information.

Q: Is doxepin still available on prescription?
A friend has just had a repeat prescription refused for doixepin as it is no longer availible.Any information on this would be benificial.

A: Yes it is although the brand sinequin is being discontiued by manufacturer pfizer. It will now be made by marlborough and will have a different brand name. At the moment there is short term stock shortage as this change takes place, and so you pharmacy may not to be able to get it for you just yet.

Q: What happens when you take Clonidine and Doxepin together?

A: You probably should ask a Pharmacist.. I doubt anyone on here is qualified enough to answer this. I mean there are people who say they are but we are talking about your health, so its best to speak to a Pharmacist. If you do not have health insurance, its not a problem, just go to any pharmacy and ask the pharmacist. The answer to your question is free (they have to do it by law).

Q: Has anyone else taken Doxepin for insomnia?
I took it, and boy......did I sleep, but then had to sleep the very next day away! Not exactly what I had expected. Is this normal?

A: Yes! Doxepin and all the other tricyclic antidepressants are very sedative. They are often prescribed to be taken at night. They give the best sleep out of all of the sedative drugs.

Q: Sinequan (Doxepin 10/25/75mg), reviews, side effects, where to buy online?
Rate your experience with this treatment. What is the best antidepressant?

A: I began at 20 mg. and I increased the dosage by 10 mg. per week. Currently I am at 225 mg. At first, while I was taking 20 mg. the medication put me to sleep in minutes. Now, I need to take a sleeping pill if want to to fall asleep within an hour. My mood was very good when I reached 150 mg. However, that only lasted for 2 weeks. So now when I increase the dosage by 10 mg. every week, I feel better for about 5 days and then the depression comes back. I will increase my dosage to 300 mg and hope that my improvement will last. The side-effects seem to last for 3 days and then go away with each increase in dosage. This medication seems to help but I think that you have to take a high dosage to see a permanent effect. Most people are better off trying the newer medications. Before you buy Sinequan online, you must get detailed information on the drug as well as information on side effects of the drug and drug interactions involved. Also, choosing a reputable online pharmacy is equally important. Conducting a thorough research on the website is a sensible decision. Positive customer reviews and all licenses in place should help you make up your mind. I have placed several orders through http://www.pompharmacy.com and have always been very pleased with speed that they dispatch the goods and quality of their meds.

Q: how easy is it to get doxepin?
as the question asks. My boyfriends ex has just told my boyfriend that she has been to two weeks counselliing for their break up (in feb) and has been just prescribed doxepin. I want to know the probability of her being prescribed doxepin and sleeping medication. I read it is prescribed for chronic depression. How easily is doxepin prescribed and the requirements before it is prescribed? Thanks!

A: you do need to have relatively chronic depression to get prescribed any anti depressant. Also the idea that doxepin was the first she was ever prescribed is quite unlikely- unless the dr is from the dark ages. doxepin is a trycyclic which means it has far more side effects than the newer anti depressants (SSRIs, SNRIs etc.) a higher likelihood of more dangerous side effects and higher possibility of death from overdose. for these reasons and more trycyclics are never the first anti depressants tried on a person. On the other hand, you seem to be implying that shes making this up and why anyone would make up such stuff i cant comprehend.... but then ive never met the person in question

Q: is it okay to take doxepin for hives?
i have urticaria (hives) and my dermatologist prescribed doxepin as an antihistamine. i know that its an anti-depressant but he said it would help my disorder. i've been on it for a while now, but i've noticed that everyone that's on it for urticaria has the topical version, and i take a pill. can anyone tell me what the difference is? thanks (:

A: All I can tell you is that my wife takes doxepin for hives also. The allergist tried several different meds before this one and this one works for her.

Q: Is one of the side effects of doxepin shortness of breath or is it the cyclosporine?

A: maybe -inform your doctor of the symptoms. call 911 for the breathing problems.

Q: My psych doctor has me on doxepin and xanax. What could I ask for in place of the doxepin?

A: Google "tricyclic antidepressants" to give you a couple of ideas to discuss with your doc. You may want to discuss newer medications with him, like SSRI's or SSNR's.

Q: If someone overdosed on Doxepin was their death painful?
A friend overdosed on this prescription medication and died. Medically do you think the death was painful or do you think he didn't feel it? I dont know how much he took, I only know he had some seizures and I think he died about an hour or two after the seizures started. yeah this is supposedly an antidepressant... so he was on this and it was supposed to make him NOT be depressed... yet he got SO depressed, he killed himself with the drug, ironic????

A: First, Im sorry for your loss. Im not a dr, but I doubt he was in a lot of pain. When you OD, especially on Rx drugs, your body is in a numb state. Additionally, if he was seizing, he was unconcious. So I doubt he was he was in pain.

Q: Has anyone been on doxepin and tried to "ween" off of it?
I have been taking it for about 4 months now, for chronic hives. Some sites say to ween off, others say that you can stop cold turkey. Has anyone had any expieriences with this drug? I will double check with my primary (my allergist saying to go cold turkey doesn't sound right). I'd rather be safe than sorry. Any help will be great. Thanks :-)

A: NEVER stop cold turkey thats hard on your body. You need to ask your dr if you should get off of it...if yes ween off SLOWLY never rush. My doctor always weens me on and off meds he said its hard on your whole body definetly your digestive system. Ex Plan if you take 2 pills a day(1 in the morning 1 @ night) a good plan might be for the 1ST 4 DAYS stop taking the night meds (forever) the NEXT 4DAYS take 1/2 a pill in the morning (if its a pill break in 1/2 if a capsle pull apart empty out 1/2 the med and put back together) After that your you can stop ok Id go to a doctor though maybe they will want to put you on something else or something you can take as needed. Good Luck!
