Q: What are some common side-effects of discontinuing Celexa?
I have been on celexa or citalopram for about a year and a half now, and my doctor has asked me to try to taper my dosage to see if I will need to use it long-term. I am almost completely off the medication. I am in the 5th week of a 6 week process, and I think I am experiencing some withdrawal symptoms. What are some common symptoms of having a withdrawal?
A: google it.
bing it.
do it..
Q: How long until Celexa is out of my system?
I was only on Celexa 10mg, once per day, for 6 days for anxiety and panic. I went to a new doctor who immediately took me off the Celexa and onto new medication.
Does anyone know how long it will take before the 6 days of 10 mg Celexa are out of my system?
It really worsened my anxiety severely and I'm concerned about the half life and length of time before it's gone.
A: im on the same medicine and if you came off of it cold turkey it will not be easy and its really not healthy to do it that way. if you just went off of it i advise you get back on it but slowly get off it take like 1 every other day then 1 every 2 days for about 2 weeks then do the same but with only half and space the days out until you feel you can be off it comfortably. but the answer to your question, i do not know because I havent been able to get off of it I get extremely sick when i do not take it for a day.
Q: Does the drug celexa help with depression and PTSD and will it replace valium?
The VA has given me celexa for depression and PTSD. The Dr said if it take this I wont need valium. The VA doesnt give out new drugs , Is celexa a good drug and what are the new ones?
A: Celexa is an antidepressant that also works well on anxiety. It wakes 2-4 weeks to work.
You may not need the valium. Celexa helps anxiety long term. Valium works for break-through anxiety, if any.
Don't worry about "new drugs". So far, the old ones work well for most people.
Q: What time of the day should I take my anxiety pill, Celexa?
I've heard that its better to take it right before bed because it makes you tired. But won't it work better and stronger if I take it in the morning?
It's Celexa.
Thank you!
A: Celexa (citalopram) can be taken at any time of the day. Some patients may experience drowsiness after taking it. If this is the case, then taking it at bedtime is the most appropriate time. It's not better or stronger when taken in the morning as opposed to the evening.
Q: Will Celexa and Clonazepam be detected in a Life Insurance Medical Test?
I am going to be taking a medical test (blood/urine draw) for life insurance purposes. Will Celexa and Clonazepam be detected on this test? If yes, can I stop taking them for any amount of time so that they are not detected?
A: They definitely could be detected. If not, they would be in your medical records. That's why it's best not to lie on a life insurance application. If you lie and get a policy but die within the contestability period, you might not have as much life insurance as you thought.
Just work with a knowledgable life insurance agent (or agents) and tell them the truth up front, so they can help you find the best company for you. It's really easy. http://www.clarifinancial.com/articles/lying-on-a-life-insurance-application
Q: How does you body react when you take your Birth Control pills and mix them with Celexa?
How does you body react when you take your Birth Control pills and mix them with Celexa? What does it do to your mood swings and body. I also wanted to know how Birth Control Stops you from being able to have kids.
A: There is no mention of Celexa interacting with birth control pills.
Tell your doctor about any prescription or over-the-counter drugs you are planning to take, and be especially certain to check with him before combining Celexa with the following:
Carbamazepine
Cimetidine
Erythromycin
Fluconazole
Itraconazole
Ketoconazole
Lithium
Metoprolol
Omeprazole
Other antidepressants such as amitriptyline, desipramine, imipramine, and nortriptyline
Sumatriptan
Warfarin
Pills work by damping down the two key hormones that trigger ovulation. Follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), the substance that coaxes an egg towards maturity, is the first to be suppressed. Luteinizing hormone (LH), which ordinarily triggers release of the egg at mid-cycle, is also held down. Production of both these substances usually starts when the body senses a shortage of two other hormones: progesterone and estrogen, both produced in the ovaries. Hormonal contraceptives supply just enough of these substances to prevent start-up of the FSH/LH production cycle. Constant levels of estrogen and progesterone thus produce constant levels of FSH and LH, and the eggs remain dormant.
Q: Celexa and Pregnancy? Has anyone taken Celexa while pregnant and can share the results?
I researched the internet and can only find questions from people asking the same question as me but haven't heard from anyone specific as to whether they went through a pregnancy on celexa and whether everything went fine. Any information would be useful. Thanks!
A: I don't take Celexa, but I take Lexapro, which I know is in the same family. I take it for severe anxiety and depression.
My OB and I talked about my taking during pregnancy, and she was of the opinion that it was fine for me to keep taking it because anxiety and depression can worsen in pregnancy. I take a very low doseage--10mgs a day. My pregnancy was fine. My son is perfectly healthy. My doctor told me the only antidepressant she will not have her patients on is Paxil because it poses many risks to the baby.
Of course, you need to talk to your own family doctor as well as your OB to find out what they recommend.

Q: Can celexa for anxiety begin to work right away?
I just started celexa for anxiety, can the effects start right away?
A: It can make you feel different right away, but it takes a few weeks to help with anxiety or depression, it can make anxiety worse for the first 2 weeks.
Q: Safe for a man to take Celexa when attempting pregnancy?
I know Celexa can be unsafe if a woman takes it during her pregnancy, but what about the man?
I've been taking 20mg of Celexa once a day for almost a month for anxiety and my wife and I are considering having a child.
I plan on asking on my doctor to be sure, but I am curious as to any personal experiences one might have.
Thank you.
A: I doubt it would have any effect on a man when it comes to having a child, but you can never be too sure. I'd definitely recommend talking to your doctor when you can. I think it's great you took this into consideration before doing anything, though!
Q: Is the impulse to clench your jaw or grind your teeth normal when taking celexa?
I recently started taking celexa for depression. The doctor said it could have weird side affects for the first few weeks, that should disappear after that amount of time. So far the only one i've noticed is that i have the impulse to clench my jaw, or grind my teeth. Is this a "normal" side affect that should go away, as the doctor says, or is this one permanent?
A: Hi John,
Side affects should not be permanent. They are a sign of your body regulating and getting used to something new and different happening throughout your system. Once your body gets used to the medication, side affects should subside.
The "normal" side affects with Celexa are nausea, dry mouth, trouble sleeping, loss of appetite, weakness, tiredness, drowsiness, dizziness, increased sweating, blurred vision, or yawning may occur (The yawning could have something to do with your jaw starting to ache, and cause you to clench/grind your teeth). If any of these effects persist or worsen well over a couple of weeks (Month), you should see your Doctor again.
Your doctor prescribed this medication because he/she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects.
Tell your doctor immediately however, if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: Unusual or severe mental/mood changes, because you have been prescribed this for your depression. (Nervousness, unusual high energy/excitement, thoughts of suicide, shakiness/tremors).
Also, tell your doctor immediately if any of these rare but very serious side effects occur: Stomach pain, fainting, bloody/black/tarry stools, vomit that looks like coffee grounds, easy bruising/bleeding, muscle weakness/cramps, seizures, fast/irregular/pounding heartbeat, difficulty urinating, change in the amount of urine.
For males (Since you are one, thought I'd throw this in). In the very unlikely event you have a painful or prolonged erection lasting 4 or more hours, stop using this drug and seek immediate medical attention, or permanent problems could occur. Decreased interest in sex or changes in sexual ability are also considered side affects.
So, to answer your question (After being so lengthy, sorry) The answer could be yes. This could be a side affect to the Celexa. And like I said, see your Doctor again if it persists or worsens. Side affects do usually last up to or a little longer than 2 weeks.
Hope this helped a bit.
Take care John, and I hope your depression gets a lot better soon.
Q: Does being on Citalopram (or Celexa) affect how to detect if you are pregnant with pregnancy tests?
I am on Citalopram, the cheap version of Celexa I believe, and I haven't had my period. I am wondering if I am pregnant but all the tests I took were negative and normally I would just say its late but it's been about two months and still no blood! And please don't say to go see a doctor.. I will go see a doctor but I would just like to know.
A: no because the tests check for a specific hormone and drugs don't cover that hormone . it wouldn't cause the hormone to not be produced either
certain meds can affect your period though so ask your doctor about it
